The Nativity Play of Schönbrunn

„DAS SCHÖNBRUNNER ADVENTSPIEL“
„THE NATIVITY PLAY OF SCHÖNBRUNN“

Children are playing in the garden of Schönbrunn Palace in front of the Gloriette.

They are singing and playing in the snow and are wondering about the purpose of the Gloriette.
A mysterious woman – the narrator – joins them and invites the children to come with her through the gate into another time and she begins to tell the secret story of a passed time.

While she sings a song the Gloriette opens the door to the past into the scene of the Holy Land.
Three wise men – NUREDIN the Babylonian, MAHIMA the Egyptian and NICOLA the Greek are looking for the KING of LOVE, of FAIRNESS and of PEACE - meet each other and find out that they all are looking for the same star.
Maria and Joseph are on their way to Bethlehem, quite desperately that all doors are locked. Maria begins to weep. The children from the Gloriette cannot agree with this and starts to help.

Sheep and shepherd are also restless in this night – the children, looking for a place for Maria and Joseph ask the shepherd for his cave. First he rejects but impressed by the courage of Julian and Lina he lets them in.
Suddenly there appears a very bright light and you can hear the first cry of the new born king.

Slowly the Gloriette closes and the narrator proclaims the message of this special night to the children and to the world.
